UPDATE 9:13 a.m.- The office of the State Fire Marshal has released a preliminary report. The barn was a 50? x 70? Pole Barn that sustained total loss at a estimated value of $130,000.00. The fire was discovered by the occupant Benjamin Hamlet, who sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s in stable condition.
The Mechanicsville VFD and surrounding units consisting of approximately 40 firefighters had the blaze under control in 40 minutes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is still investigating and asks that if anyone has any information toplease contact the Upper Eastern Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-822-7609 or the Upper Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6820.

Helen, MD: At 10:03 p.m. April 12, 2018 a 9-1-1 call was placed for a structure fire on Foley Mattingly Road in Helen, MD. Units from Mechanicsville VFD and surrounding areas were called in to assist.
According to residents in the area of the fire, it was intentionally set by an unknown subject. The barn stored work materials and antiques and is reported to be a total loss. The barn is owned by resident Ricky Taylor.
