Marine Brig. Gen. Kurt W. Stein, the director of Marine and Family Programs, has been removed and reassigned after an investigation into his remarks at an all-hands meeting April 6, 2018.

Headquarters Marine Corps received an anonymous hotline tip April 9, regarding remarks made by Stein. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Robert B. Neller, directed a command investigation that was completed on April 13. After reviewing the investigation, Neller determined that he lost confidence in Stein’s ability to lead this particular organization, and Stein has been removed and reassigned.

The allegations stem from town hall style meeting in Quantico, VA, in which Stein allegedly called allegations of sexual harassment against a Marine officer “fake news” and dismissed it using other foul language.

“Leaders are responsible for establishing an environment conducive to mission accomplishment,”Neller’s spokesman, Lt. Col. Eric Dent, said in a statement.
