Prince Frederick, MD – Calvert Hospice is joining the #GivingTuesday movement again this year. In 2017, our community rallied around our cause and gave generous donations totaling over $4,300 to support our programs and initiatives for grieving children in Calvert County. Many people don’t know that we offer bereavement services to all residents in Calvert County, whether they are hospice families or not. This year, you can help us provide these services!

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that encourages people to give to a charity or cause on one particular day to help make the world a better place. This year, #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27. We are excited to announce that Dan Boesz has offered $3,000 in matching funds for donations made to our children’s programs!

Calvert Hospice’s children’s programs confront the adverse effects of grief and help children learn positive coping skills and gain tools and techniques for dealing with their feelings, as well as offering them a safe place to share their experiences. We have several programs that we’re currently running and have plans for more in the future. In addition to a three-day day camp each summer (Camp Phoenix) and twice yearly family support group (Journeys), Jess Foster, Child & Teen Bereavement Coordinator, facilitates grief support groups in several elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the county, offering children the grief support they need in the comfort and safety of their own school. The school groups are free to participants. All of these grief support programs provide a safe place for grieving children to share their experiences, learn coping skills, and process their feelings in a healthy way. Ms. Foster has plans to expand the grief programs in the schools, offer play therapy, and more, but she is working with a limited budget. Funds will be used to purchase supplies for all of our children’s programs and will allow Ms. Foster to expand her offerings throughout the community.
