Press Release, SOuthern Maryland Agriculture Development Commission
The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, is requesting proposals for an event planner to assist with the planning and implementation of the 2019 Buy Local Challenge Celebration, an annually recurring event/festival that promotes Maryland agriculture (farm products and services and agri-business).
This year’s “BLC Celebration” will take place on Monday, July 29, concluding the statewide Buy Local Challenge Week (jointly promoted by SMADC and the Maryland Department of Agriculture). The farmers’ market style festival features approximately 50 vendors offering tastings and sales of Maryland grown and produced farm products as well as wineries, breweries, distilleries, local artisans, crafters, and agricultural organizations. Other attractions include musical entertainment and children’s activities. Open to the general public, the event has grown in popularity, attracting upwards of 600 people (adults and children), including VIP’s from state legislature and local government.
SMADC is seeking an individual to work closely with SMADC staff and the county ‘host’ venue to organize and implement all aspects of the BLC event. Previous experience in event planning (festivals, weddings, large public events) is required. The contractual period is from April 1, 2019 through mid-August 2019, including final debrief, reports and accounting.
Proposals must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. EST on February 15, 2019. Samples of work may be submitted to the SMADC offices at 15045 Burnt Store Road, P.O. Box 745, Hughesville, MD 20637. Work samples that are hand-carried or mailed must be received by 4:00 p.m. EST on February 15, 2019.
