Regular spring stocking is done by department crews in lakes, rivers and streams from early March through June. In 2019, the department will stock trout in 133 locations in 18 counties.
The department raises the majority of these trout in the state’s hatcheries, including theAlbert M. Powell Hatcheryand theBear Creek Hatchery, and through a partnership with the privately ownedMettiki Hatchery.
“Our hatcheries staff work hard throughout the year to raise and stock trout, which showcase this magnificent fishery,” Fishing and Boating Services Director David Blazer said. “We expect this to be a memorable season for Maryland’s dedicated trout anglers.”
Trout stocking is funded by revenue from fishing licenses, trout stamps and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Sport Fish Restoration Program.
