State Highway Fishing Creek Bridge Construction Update: beginning March 27th construction crews will start the reconstruction of the intersection at Gordon Stinnett. Construction will continue for 2 weeks with the requirement to split traffic while work is being completed. A flagging operation will be in place during these times. It is anticipated that by April 8th the barrier wall will come down and the final traffic pattern will be in place. This work is leading to the conclusion of the bridge construction with final completion scheduled for early June 2019. We thank you for your continued patience during construction.
March 15 SALMON DINNER. This Famous Lent Delight (Yum) is the focus of the informal dinner hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary Stallings-Williams Post 206 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Come to the lower level dining room for a meal you won’t soon forget. March 16th from 8 am-12 pm- Community Shredding Event – Get ready for Spring, and get rid of old paperwork! The Town of Chesapeake Beach, Town of North Beach and the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department are holding a Community Shredding Event at the North Beach Fire Department. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Calvert Master Gardeners with its partner the America Chestnut Land Trust are offering free tree seedlings to help improve water quality in Calvert County. County landowners who have a creek, drainage ditch, stream or other waterway on or near their property are eligible for free trees through the Department’s Backyard Buffers program. Trees intercept rainfall, reducing its impact and allowing it to penetrate the soil instead of running off into streams. Trees planted along waterways help improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, lowering peak water temperatures, reducing sediment and stabilizing stream banks.Residents can choose from two mixes of trees & shrubs. Each “buffer in a bag” contains native bare-root tree seedlings suitable for planting in moist soil conditions. The shrub/small tree bundle (9 seedlings) includes a mix of red bud (3), gray dogwood (3) and indigo bush (3). The large tree bundle (15 seedlings) includes a mix of river birch (5), sycamore (5) and chestnut oak (5). All seedlings are 1-year-old and approximately 8 to 14 inches tall. There is a limit of two bundles per household. Information on tree maintenance and planting techniques, in addition to suggestions on other good native species, will be provided at the time of pick up. Requests must be received by April 10, 2019. Interested property owners should contact Liz Laher, Administrative Assistant II, University of Maryland Extension, Calvert, preferably by email llaher@umd.edu , or by calling 410-535-3662 to reserve seedlings. Bundles will be available for pickup in mid/late April. Quantities are limited, so reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, click here .

June 15 from 5 pm – 7 pm Bayfront Park Nature Walk & Talk Series: Coastal Geology of Calvert Cliffs and Bayfront Park Beach. Join Chesapeake Beach’s own Dr. Ken Rasmussen, Professor of Geology and Oceanography at Northern Virginia Community College, as he describes the ancient past recorded in our stretch of Calvert Cliffs, and the dynamic modern-day forces that continue to shape them today. Event suitable for ages 13+, minors must be accompanied by responsible adult. No pets please. The event is free but registration is required as group size will be limited to 15 people.
