Waldorf, MD- Lidl has just purchased and broken ground on a 9 acre parcel for their new grocery store in Waldorf. The Property is located at the corner of Smallwood Drive and St. Patrick’s Drive across the street from the County Library. The project is in its planning stage so there is no opening date.
As part of its ongoing expansion along the East Coast, Lidl US announced today plans to open 25 new stores in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia by spring of 2020. By the end of next year, Lidl expects to sell its award-winning products in more than 100 stores and create more than 1,000 new jobs across nine states.

As part of this move to operate in the most convenient locations, Lidl will also close two stores in Rockingham and Kinston, North Carolina this summer. All employees there will be given the opportunity to relocate and work at other stores within Lidl’s growing markets.
Earlier this week, Lidl also announced it will hold a hiring event to fill around 100 new positions at its regional headquarters and distribution center in Alamance County, North Carolina.
LiDL will be opening other stores in Maryland at the following locations: Catonsville, College Park, District Heights, Hagerstown, and LAnham
Lidl is a German discount supermarket based in Neckarsulm, Germany.
It operates over 10,000 stores across Europe and approximately 52 so far in the United States. It is very similar to an Aldi Market and it’s their biggest competitor.
