We all know that a vacation can be beneficial, especially for anyone looking for a respite from the pressures of day-to-day life. This is really why there’s no shortage of discussion about beautiful destinations around the world – for those seeking vacation ideas.
However, visiting many of these places tends to entail extensive travel time and of course, heavy costs. So what if you decided to stay within the state instead? Should this be something you consider, you’ll come to realize that Maryland itself is teeming with destinations that can make for an unforgettable summer vacation.
Assateague Island National Seashore
Credited as one of the most beautiful beaches Maryland has to offer, this sprawling, uninhabited stretch of land (about 48,000 acres) stands out mostly for its incredible wildlife. For example, visitors to the Maryland side of Assateague (the stretch of land reaches the Virginia shoreline as well) might catch sight of some of the hundreds of wild horses sho frequent the beaches. They can also see dolphins swimming with the waves, or enjoy fish and clams while having a lazy day of fishing in the shallower waters. Wildlife aside, Assateague also offers visitors the chance to go camping under the stars – a perfect option to cap off the back-to-nature vibe of the seashore.
Baltimore Inner Harbor
Similar to the example mentioned above, this corner of the city of Baltimore provides an extensive wealth of attractions and things to do. These range from catching an Orioles baseball game at Camden Yards to taking in the breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay, from the Top of the World observation level. Meanwhile, there are plenty of traditional city travel attractions to enjoy in the midst of this unique setting. You can enjoy dining options ranging from delicious local crab to chain steakhouses like Fogo de Chao; you can spend the night in a comfortable hotel with excellent views of the city. Really, a trip here can be whatever you make it.
Ocean City Beach
Ocean City Beach his perhaps the most natural warm-weather destination in Maryland: a seaside area featuring its own boardwalk, sandy beaches, crab shacks, and miniature golf. Somewhat less typically, this is also the home to Ocean Downs Casino, an attraction the likes of which most Americans don’t expect to bump into. Casinos are still popular in certain parts of the country, and on a more global level, they now thrive online.
Sites in the UK set the tone for the whole industry, and online slots offered in New Zealand showcase a whole new style of otherwise-outdated games. Here and there though one still runs into an unexpected, old-school, live casino – such as Ocean Downs. That’s not to say it feels old, but it’s somewhat classic in a nice way, with basic game offerings, on-site dining, and even horse racing activity, all just steps from an Isle of Wight Bay inlet.
The above examples are just a few places in Maryland that you can visit to make sure this summer becomes one to remember. There’s still plenty of appeal to more far-flung summer travel destinations, and if you get the chance and have the desire to, you should absolutely roam overseas or cross the country. This should go to show though that Maryland is by no means lacking in beautiful and appealing summer getaways.
