News Release, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

New Britain, CT – The Blue Crabs are a squad that is much better when at home. They also have the luxury of being on a very brief three-game road trip before returning home for yet another seven-game homestand. That being said there is no time to waste in the Freedom Division. The Blue Crabs didn’t waste time this evening, but they also didn’t game ground in the division as they lost to the New Britain Bees, 13-4.

New Britain threw some haymakers early that Southern Maryland was never able to recover from. It began at the bottom of the first inning when Jonathan Galvez hit a grand slam off of the Blue Crabs’ starter, Michael Kelly (L, 3-8).

The very next inning, the Bees put together four different base hits that drove in at least one run, as they plated a five-spot in the second. After just two innings of play, the Blue Crabs were behind 9-1 and never recovered.

Josh McAdams brought home a run in the second, giving him his sixth RBI in his last seven games played, and in the ninth Edwin Garcia drove in Kent Blackstone to extend his hit streak to 11 games.

All in all, there were few bright spots in a New Britain victory over the Blue Crabs by a score of 13-4, but tomorrow Southern Maryland will begin the journey to attempt turning around to win the series.

The Blue Crabs will return home Monday, August 12th for the series opener of a four-game set with the Sugar Land Skeeters, and a 6:35 p.m first pitch.
