Leonardtown, Md- A big thank you to all who joined us on September 6th to celebrate Downtown Leonardtown’s anniversary as an officially designated Arts & Entertainment District!
Shops and restaurants were open late, guest artists were present at many of the galleries and art studios, and one-evening only specials were offered by various merchants. Although the 40+ outdoor musicians, vendors, and guests had to be canceled due to the wind and rain there were still plenty of opportunities for fun and exciting things to do around town.
We very much appreciated the many who braved the ominous weather to “walk the walk” and vote for their favorite pieces as part of the Art Walk contest.
The works of 35 different local artists have been displayed since Sept. 4th at participating businesses and will remain at their host shop through the end of the month, visit the Facebook page for St. Mary’s County Arts Council to see all of the entries and their locations.
The winners, by popular vote, were:
- 1st Place: Erik Cotton, “The ColorCaster” located at Fenwick St. Used Books & Music
- 2nd Place: Toni Wolf, “Golden Petals” located at North End Gallery
- 3rd Place: Jody Brouwer, “Sparkle Visions” located at Fenwick St. Used Books & Music
The audience participation Drum Circle with the SoMar Drummers had a lucky break from the elements which allowed them to be outside at The Square. There was a HUGE turnout of percussionists and people just passing by who joined in for a fabulous evening of drumming.
Save the date for our next First Friday event on October 4th from 5-8 PM for “Leonardtown Fall Fest” which will feature a free concert by Cowboy Crossing, a “Scarecrow Stroll”, pumpkin painting, scarecrow making, a “Mini Punkin Chunkin”, selfie stops, return of the Drum Circle and more!
Check the Leonardtown First Fridays page on Facebook and www.firstfridaysleonardtown.com for details.
A special thank you to St. Mary’s County Arts Council, the Town of Leonardtown, LBA business members, Sheila Klotz of the SoMar Drummers, the First Friday volunteers, and Leonardtown Business Association Platinum Sponsors (Leonardtown Chevy Buick GMC, Marrick Homes, Quality Built Homes, and Visit St. Mary’s) who all helped to make Art Walk a wonderful community event!
