If you have been to Lexington Park, you know there are a lot of chain restaurants! Luckily, there are some locally-owned and operated establishments serving great food! One of my favorites is Linda’s Café.
Linda’s Café has been a local favorite for 31 years. Owner Linda Palchinski was raised in Texas where her Aunt Sophie taught her how to cook. After jobs as a secretary, in hospitality, and as a librarian, she decided to open up a friendly place with great food.
When she first opened, she cooked on a small electric stove. And she has kept cooking all these years. Everything is homemade and tastes like Mom’s food! Over a few visits, I’ve had Chipped Beef (not a shocker to those who know me), Hot Turkey Sandwich, Chicken Noodle Soup, Salisbury Steak, French Fries with Gravy, Club Sandwich and Southern Maryland Stuffed Ham.
All made in-house! The Chipped Beef came with Grits (which are made a little bit of bacon grease for added flavor) and was so tasty! It was a perfect consistency! The Chicken Soup was full of chicken and the broth was so flavorful. The French Fries with Gravy reminded me of going to the local People’s Drug Store food counter when I was a kid (not trying to date myself…lol). The sandwiches and Salisbury Steak were delicious! I recently wrote about the local Stuffed Ham, and of all the ones I tried, I liked Linda’s the best!
It’s so nice to talk to Linda, she’s a lot of fun! She has some interesting stories to tell. She told me she “could write a book on all the things that have happened here”. She loves to make great food for people. Breakfast food is very popular; she goes through three cases of scrapple a week. Another favorite is an Egg Salad BLT made with jalapeno bacon…yum!
Linda has weekly specials:
Monday – Baked Chicken
Tuesday – Ham & Cabbage
Wednesday – Meatloaf
Thursday – Liver & Onions
Friday – the specials change
For the senior diners, Linda’s has a special menu served from 3 pm to 6 pm …for $5.99! All dinners come with one side and are slightly smaller portions.
If you are looking for a restaurant with a homely atmosphere, good company and great food…go to Linda’s Café in Lexington Park.
Keep a lookout for “Linda’s on the Go” food truck. Operated by Linda’s daughter Melissa and her friend Mandy, they offer elevated, interesting, amazing food. At the recent Taste of St. Mary’s County, they took first place in almost all the food categories at the judging. Follow them on Facebook –https://www.facebook.com/Lindasonthego/
Linda’s café is located at 21779 Tulagi Place, Lexington Park, across from the main gate to the Navy Base.
