On Monday, March 23, 2020, Governor Larry Hogan ordered all non-essential businesses to shut down. The order includes the following:
“Grocery stores, farmer’s markets, liquor stores, and convenience stores are not included in the executive order. Meanwhile, restaurants, distilleries, and wineries must close but can offer carry-out and delivery services. Farms, food manufacturing plants, pet supply stores, and companies that handle agricultural equipment can remain open.”
For those of us who need to eat (and don’t cook… don’t judge me), this is good news. For restaurant owners, they have been scrambling to decide how to serve the community and keep their doors open, while following this order and keeping customers and employees safe.
On Monday, March 30, 2020, Governor Larry Hogan issued a Stay-at-Home Order. The purpose of this order is to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by keeping individuals from being exposed to the virus and keeping those who have the virus from spreading it to others.
I am providing a list of restaurants serving carry-out, curbside, and/or delivery service to the community. This week I have my spreadsheet of restaurants in St. Mary’s County. I shared the Charles County spreadsheet last week and I’m working on the Calvert County spreadsheet. I know I have missed some restaurants and I will continue to update my lists. Please message me with any restaurants I should add. I will post updates periodically.
My purpose in these spreadsheets is to let the community see what restaurants are available. I’ve included the address, phone number, and website (if available). Many of these restaurants are operating with minimized hours and limited menus. Make sure to check their Facebook pages (most have a Facebook page) or their websites for further information. These restaurants take call-in or online orders and many offer curbside service.
I am not including fast-food drive-thru restaurants because they have been able to adapt to this new format easier than others. Some of the fast-food restaurants we need to continue to frequent are Chick-fil-a, Wendy’s, Burger King, McDonald’s, Arby’s, Roy Rogers, Taco Bell, Sonic, Dairy Queen, KFC, and Popeye’s. Some of these franchises (such as Chick-fil-a) are locally-owned and are very involved in our community.
Mobile restaurants (food trucks) are in the area and offering amazing food. To see where they are on any given day, check out their Facebook pages and social media. Some of the trucks in St. Mary’s County include Linda’s on the Go (Linda’s Café), Blue Wind Gourmet, Nicolletti’s Pizza, Days Off Deli, OTP Wing Wagon (Olde Town Pub), Real Food and The Jamaican Grill. Some area neighborhoods have recently been hosting Food Trucks (Golden Beach and Country Lakes). This is a great idea! Keeping in mind the Stay-at-Home Order, this keeps people very close to home…in their neighborhoods. The truck owners/operators understand social distancing and offer a safe way to get delicious food!
Another option to enjoy great food is to use a food delivery service. More information about the services can be found on their websites. Phone apps make it very easy to order food and have it delivered to you. Some of the food delivery services in our area include Door Dash, GrubHub, Postmates, Food Scooter, and Uber Eats. These services let you stay at home!
Please stay healthy, enjoy great food and support all our local businesses!
