For week two of Restaurants Revisit, I am going to check in with two more of my favorite restaurants from the last year. I am providing links to my original articles, and letting you know about their current status. In addition, I am providing links to my articles with by-county spreadsheets of open (for carryout, curbside, and/or delivery) restaurants.

Rucci’s

  • 10579 Theodore Green Boulevard
  • White Plains, MD
  • 301-932-3838

Rucci’s is open and continuing a tradition of community involvement. Most importantly, I need to commend Rucci’s for their recent generosity in providing meals to 700 people in our community who are struggling to make ends meets. Bobby, Diana and their crew are shining examples of what it means to be a Southern Maryland neighbor.

Rucci’s has wonderful fresh, delicious food! Some of my favorites are the Sautéed Shrimp (I usually get this once a week), BLT (lots of bacon), Cream of Crab Soup, burgers, salads, and pizza. They usually have Thursday and Friday night dinner specials, and week day lunch specials. Two of their recent dinner specials were Turkey & Vegetable Pot Pie and Prime Rib…yum!

Order from their menu, or pick-up something to put together at home. They have Pizza kits, Italian meal kits (these require two-hours’ notice), and Mimosa and Moscow Mule kits.

You need to treat yourself to Rucci’s soups, they are amazing. Chef Will makes a special soup almost every day. And, if you are lucky, you can get a bowl of Chicken & Dumplings made by Bobby Rucci. Occasionally, Bobby prepares 50 gallons of the soup and it sells out in hours. Check their Facebook page for the soup of the day…and the daily specials!

Rucci’s hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11:30am to 7:30pm. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.

They have curbside pick up and carryout. For curbside, call your order in and then call when you get to the parking lot. They will bring your food to you. For carryout, they are allowing one customer in at a time and a face mask is required.

A recommendation from Rucci’s: “Why not call in your order now for later? Our phone lines get busy during peak lunch/dinner times. Feel free to call your orders in for future pick up. 301-932-3838”.

The Slice House

  • 41565 Park Avenue
  • Leonardtown, MD
  • 301-997-6577

The Slice House offers amazing fresh-made pizza and NY-style bagels. All their ingredients are the best quality and the pizza dough and sauce are made inhouse.

During the pandemic, they are only selling whole pies, not their usual “slices”. They often sell out before the end of the day. Recently, Friday and Saturdays, they have been selling out by 5pm. The pizza is so good because of the ingredients, the topping to crust ratio and the brick oven baking.

They sell out of bagels too! Most bagel mornings, they sell all 500 bagels by 9:00am. The bagels are started the night before, then boiled and baked (in the brick oven) in the wee hours of the morning. Every week they have typical bagel flavors (such as plain, poppy seed, sesame seed, salt, everything, garlic) plus a special one. Last week’s bagel special was a Candied Bacon Bagel. Hello…candied bacon and bagel!! I missed out on this one, but I will not miss out next time!

Sold out, you ask? Well, the pizza and bagels are that good. The Slice House can only make a limited amount because of space constraints in the kitchen. I often drive 40 minutes to get their fabulous pizza and bagels (my bagel runs occur very early in the morning)! Read my two articles (and yes…they are so good; I wrote about them twice).

The Slice House hours are:

  • For Pizza – Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • For Bagels – Thursday through Sunday 6:30 am until sold out.
