LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Maryland Rural Broadband to establish a pilot project for broadband expansion in St. Mary’s County. The Commissioners leveraged $2,972,088 CARES funding and
a $200,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Rural Broadband to deliver broadband internet to underserved areas in St. Mary’s County.
This grant will fund the purchasing and procurement of the Phase III cable plant expansion and will significantly improve broadband access to citizens living in rural St. Mary’s County areas. The upgrade is expected to be complete this calendar year.
The grant was accepted during the Commissioners regular business meeting Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
