UPDATE 11:10 a,m.- The Southern Maryland Chronicle has spoken with Ms. Jenna Guzman, Director, Office of Community Engagement & Policy at the St. Mary’s County Health Department through email. She stated,” The closure is due to an internal emergency. Unfortunately, I am not able to provide any additional details at this time for confidentiality reasons.”

The Southern Maryland Chronicle will continue to monitor the situation and if we receive anymore information from the SMCHD, we will update.

Leonardtown, MD(10:53 a.m.)- The St. Mary’s County Health Department(SMCHD) has announced an emergency closure of the Main Office and Harm Reduction Center in Leonardtown, MD along with announcing the suspension of COVID-19 testing there earlier today.

The press release states that the closure will be effective at 12:00 p.m. today and will stay closed for the day, resuming operations tomorrow. Testing will continue as scheduled (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) at the Lexington Park Office.
