The Department of Public Works is scheduled to begin the Pinefield Area Sewer Rehabilitation Project tomorrow, Aug. 11 and will be ongoing for approximately 10 months. Repairs will be made to sewer lines and manholes within the subdivision beginning with sewer cleaning and televising of the lines.
The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of unwanted groundwater and rainwater infiltrating the sewer system through leaking joints, connections, and manholes to reduce the amount of sewer volume that reaches the Mattawoman Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Unwanted groundwater and rainwater in the system takes up design flow capacity in the pipes, leads to higher operation and maintenance costs at the plant, and contributes to sanitary sewer overflows during heavy rains.
