The Greenwell Foundation Board of Trustees has appointed Maria McDonald as its new Executive Director. With over 30 years of non-profit experience, McDonald brings a wealth of expertise in fundraising, strategic growth, program performance, and community engagement. Her career spans various sectors, including the arts, educational equity, healthcare, and community-based missions, particularly in the greater Philadelphia and Southern Maryland areas.

Dennis England, President of the Greenwell Foundation Board, expressed enthusiasm for McDonald’s appointment, stating, “We are excited to have Maria lead our organization. The board recently completed a strategic planning process at the beginning of the year. The plan identifies areas of growth in our outreach, nature, and equestrian programming. It became clear in the interview process that Maria has the qualifications needed to thoughtfully execute the plan while maintaining our quality staff and programs.”

McDonald, a 2024 graduate of Leadership Southern Maryland, has also taught grant writing classes through the Non-Profit Institute at the College of Southern Maryland since relocating to the area in 2022. She is passionate about mission-driven organizations and is particularly drawn to the Greenwell Foundation’s vision. McDonald remarked, “Non-profit organizations show us how we can work together to make our community stronger. Taking care of our world, each other, and ourselves enriches our lives, something all people deserve the opportunity to experience. I can’t think of a more beautiful place to come to experience nature, and foster empathy, respect, and growth than Greenwell.”

The Greenwell Foundation, known for its inclusive programs and scenic location, is poised for further growth under McDonald’s leadership. The strategic plan developed by the board earlier this year focuses on expanding outreach, enhancing nature and equestrian programs, and ensuring the sustainability of the foundation’s high-quality staff and services. McDonald’s extensive background aligns perfectly with these goals, making her a fitting choice to steer the foundation toward its future objectives.

Community members and those interested in the Greenwell Foundation’s initiatives are encouraged to reach out to McDonald. She can be contacted via email at gwfexecutivedirector@gmail.com or by phone at (301) 373-9775. Whether you want to learn more about the foundation’s programs, explore volunteering opportunities, or discover how to get involved, McDonald and the Greenwell team are eager to engage with supporters and newcomers alike.

The Greenwell Foundation’s dedication to providing enriching experiences through nature and community-oriented activities continues to thrive with McDonald at the helm. Her leadership is expected to bring new insights and a renewed vigor to the foundation’s mission, ensuring that it remains a vibrant part of the Southern Maryland community.
