The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners lauded Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets for being awarded the CAP Quality Cadet Unit Award for the sixth consecutive year. The Calvert County CAP squadron was one of 83 units among 1,020 squadrons nationwide that achieved high levels of excellence and received the prestigious award.
The CAP is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit organization that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force made up of adult volunteers and cadets ages 12 to 21. The CAP performs more than 85 percent of inland air and ground search and rescue missions in the United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. The organization also assists with relief activities during periods of disasters in cooperation with civil defense agencies. Volunteers take a leading role in a comprehensive program of aerospace education and serve as mentors to America’s youth through CAP cadet programs.
