The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners recognized Department of Parks & Recreation Division Chief Doug Meadows for 32-years of faithful service to Calvert County Government. Doug’s career began with Calvert County Government July 8, 1985 when he became the second person to hold the position of Recreation Division Chief. Under his leadership the parks and recreation program grew to include the first public beach and campground, a skate park, dog parks, recreation centers, a golf course, outdoor waterparks and an indoor pool, as well as employing new technology to improve the overall operations of the Parks & Recreation Division.
Doug was President of the Maryland Recreation & Parks Association (MRPA) from 1992-1993 and served on numerous committees throughout his career, culminating with the most prestigious John P. (Jack) Hewitt Distinguished Fellow award from Maryland Recreation & Parks Association in 2016. “I want to thank you,” said Commissioner Pat Nutter. “It’s a tough job dealing with thousands of people and the public; good luck and keep busy in your retirement.”
