LA PLATA, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) met with the Calvert – Charles – St. Mary’s Continuum of Care Board of Directors this afternoon to discuss the upcoming 2018 Point-In-Time Survey. This year’s count will take place on January 24. The annual survey counts every sheltered and unsheltered individual in Southern Maryland.

“The annual Point-In-Time Survey is an important step in addressing the issue of homelessness in our community and helping individuals find permanent shelter,” said Congressman Hoyer. “Affordable housing continues to be one of the most pressing issues facing families throughout Maryland. That’s one of the reasons why I launched the Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity with Congresswoman Barbara Lee in 2013, which works to identify new ways to alleviate poverty in our communities.”

“I am hopeful that we will have a strong and accurate count this year,” continued Congressman Hoyer. “We must continue to work to identify different ways to help more families secure affordable housing in the Fifth District, and throughout Maryland.”

“This annual count is important to our community as it has the potential to bring needed resources to a vulnerable population, those that are homeless,” said Sandy Washington, Executive Director, Lifestyles of Maryland. “We especially continue to focus on unaccompanied youth and our Veterans. As always we appreciate Congressman Hoyer bringing local attention to this national initiative.”
