From improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay to opening our green spaces so that more Marylanders can enjoy them, I’ve worked hard in Congress to protect Maryland’s outstanding natural resources. I was proud to receive a 97% score from the League of Conservation Voters on their 2017 Environmental Scorecard for my work to prevent attacks by the Trump Administration on our clean air and water.

The budget proposal President Trump sent to Congress last month attacks our environment on multiple levels, including slashing funding for the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay and defunding programs that allow scientists to study climate change. The President’s proposal is unacceptable, I am committed to preventing this Administration from undermining important environmental protections.
Last week, I joined my colleagues in the Maryland Delegation in sending a letter to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, expressing our deep opposition to opening up the Maryland coast to new oil and gas drilling. The livelihood of thousands of Marylanders depends on tourism, fisheries, and clean water. A potential oil spill would have severe consequences for many communities in the Fifth Congressional District, and I will continue to oppose any efforts to open our coast to new offshore drilling.
The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries are among the most important natural resources we have. We must work together to minimize pollution and encourage the health of these resources. I will continue to advocate for efforts that ensure our land, air, and water is clean for generations to come.
