The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) is pleased to announce two unpaid summer internship programs for rising high school seniors and college freshman at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River. The two internship programs are: The Aviation Electronics and Sensors Internship Program (AESIP), and the Radio Frequency and Antenna Demonstration and Instruction for Advancing Technology Education (RADIATE). These internships are for students pursuing career fields in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) that meets the 100 hours STEM internship requirements.
AESIP will provide the students with opportunities to learn about the different technologies that the NAWCAD AIR-4.5 Avionics, Sensors & Electronic Warfare Department researches and develops. AESIP will give theory and hands-on experience from senior experts in areas such as unmanned aircraft control systems, radar and electro-optic sensors, night vision goggles, communication theory, SONAR theory, Cyber systems and more. To illustrate the use of such technologies, students will have unique opportunities to tour a variety of test aircraft and facilities. AESIP will occur July 10-July 27.
During RADIATE students will learn about radio waves, antenna and radar technologies and how the United States Navy develops, tests and uses these technologies on board their aircraft platforms. This unique internship program combines a curriculum developed and taught by NAWCAD AIR-4.5radar engineers which includes classroom training, hands-on experiments, tours of NAWCAD labs, discussion panels with NAWCAD engineers and scientists, and concludes with a multi-day experiment using radar hardware. RADIATE will occur July 30 – August 17.
Students must be U.S citizens, 16 years and older. Endorsement from a math or science teacher and parent/guardian signature are required.
