The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners designated the month of April as Archaeology Month in Calvert County. The recognition highlights the value of the county’s archaeological resources and the many volunteers who have joined together to protect, study and interpret the county’s rich and diverse archaeological heritage.

Pictured with the board to receive the proclamation, from left, are Department of Planning & Zoning Planner III Kirsti Uunila and Maryland Historical Trust State Underwater Archaeologist Susan Langley, Ph.D.

The 2018 Archaeology Month theme is “Charting the Past: 30 Years of Exploring Maryland’s Submerged History.” Citizens are encouraged to participate in archaeology themed events throughout Calvert County.
