Washington, D.C.– The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team rallied with two runs in the ninth to post an 8-7 non-conference road win over the host Gallaudet University Bison on Friday afternoon. St. Mary’s (8-6) capitalized on two hits and two Bison (3-16-1) errors in the ninth while sophomoresNoah Meyers(Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) andJay Hammett(Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon) combined for two scoreless innings to secure the victory.

How It Happened

  • The Bison broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning asDarren Drolsbaughlead off the inning with a hit by pitch before stealing second and then scored on a ground out to the shortstop.
  • St. Mary’s responded by unleashing four runs in the top of the fourth behind a one-out RBI single by first-year infielderConnor Coursey(Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) as well as a three-run error by the Gallaudet right fielder for a 4-1 lead.
  • GU picked up two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to regain a one-run lead after five innings of action.
