WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in advance of the 75th anniversary of Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The installation was officially commissioned on April 1, 1943:

“For 75 years, the men and women of Patuxent River Naval Air Station have served Maryland, and our nation, with distinction. Since its commission and the very first flight tests of the 1940s and 1950s, to the development and testing of new naval air systems for the 21st century, Pax River has long been at the forefront of our military readiness.

The Naval Test Pilot School at Pax River has played an instrumental role in training our nation’s military flight test pilots, and the world-class facilities at the base have made it the premier center for research, development, testing, and evaluation of aviation. I’m honored to represent this respected installation and the brave service members and civilian employees who support Pax River, and I’m proud to join in celebrating 75 years of service to the United States.”
