Junior Hunt Set for April 14; Regular Season Starts April 18
TheMaryland Department of Natural Resourcesinvites hunters to join the statewide spring turkey season kicking off in April. Young hunters can take aim April 14 for theJunior Turkey Hunt. All hunters can try to bag a bird during regularspring turkey season, April 18-May 23 across the state.
For the first part of the regular hunting season, April 18-May 9, hunting is allowed from onehalf-hour before sunrise until noon. For the rest of the season, May 10-23, hunting hours are one half-hour before sunrise until sunset.
“With Maryland’s wild turkey population near an all-time high, we expect another successful spring season,”Wildlife and Heritage ServiceDirector Paul Peditto said. “Youth hunters usually enjoy the excitement and pleasant weather that the spring season provides, so seasoned hunters should consider passing along their skills and knowledge to someone new this year.”
Junior Hunt Daysallow licensed youths 16 years old and under to hunt if they are accompanied by an unarmed adult, age 21 and older, who holds a valid Maryland hunting license. The Junior Turkey Hunt is April 14 statewide; youth hunting isallowed April 15in select counties. Hunting hours for the Junior Turkey Hunt are one half-hour to sunset.
The daily bag limit for the spring season is one bearded turkey, with a season bag limit of two bearded turkeys. Complete season dates, regulations and check-in procedures can be foundonline.
