Update @ 12:45 p.m., Washington Gas has declared incident as under control. Upper Level JC Penny’s parking lot will remain closed for repairs. All interiorsections of the mall are open. Any questions regarding this incident should be directed to the St. Charles Towne Center.

UPDATE 11:10 a.m.- A 4? main gas line was struck in the parking lot near Sears by construction crews working. Washington Gas is on the scene and state it will be approximately one hour until the line is completely shut down. Low lying areas, near waterways, and around the area of the incident may smell the gas for sometime. Waldorf units will still be present on the scene until the all clear is given.

Gas line struck by excavating equipment. Portions of the Mall have been evacuated for precautionary measures. Washington Gas is currently on the scene working to mitigate the situation.

Waldorf, MD 10:21 a.m.- Authorities in Waldorf, MD have been notified that a gas line has been struck by construction crews working in the area of the Sears Department store. Sears is being evacuated and the lower level will possibly be evacuated.

Watch for emergency crews and expect delays in the area.
