PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – April 12, 2018 – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will hold a public hearing Tuesday, April 17, 2018, to consider and receive comments on proposed text amendments to the agriculture rules and regulations for the Purchase and Retirement (PAR) fund. The hearing starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room in the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse, located at 175 Main St. in Prince Frederick.

Through the PAR program, Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) are purchased, retired and permanently removed from the market to protect farmland from development. Currently, TDR owners can only sell 10 TDRs each year pending available funding. The proposed amendments remove that cap. The amendments also allow members of the Agriculture Preservation Advisory Board to submit a PAR fund application – something currently not allowed.

The PAR program is part of Calvert County’s longstanding effort to preserve agricultural land. The county has preserved more than 29,900 acres of farms and forests over the past 30 years.

Citizens can view the resolution online. For additional information, contact the Calvert County Department of Planning & Zoning at 410-535-1600, ext. 2339 or via email at Individuals who cannot attend the public hearing may submit written comments. These written comments must be received by 4:30 p.m., April 16, 2018, and may be submitted by emailing or through the U.S. mail to the BOCC at 175 Main St., Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
