RICHMOND, Va.– The Bowie Baysox (6-5) had their chances, but managed just four hits in a 1-0 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (9-3) on Tuesday night at The Diamond in Richmond.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the ninth, the Baysox had runners at first and second with one away, but RHPCaleb Simpson(1.0 IP, 2 BB, K) gotAdemar Rifaelato groundout and caughtMike Yastrzemskilooking at strike three to end the game. Simpson notched his third save of the year.

Flying Squirrels starterShaun Anderson(2-1) allowed four hits while walking one and fanning four in six innings of work. RHPMike Connolly(2.0 + IP, BB, 2 K) had a scoreless outing in relief of Anderson.

Richmond grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the second asJerry Sandsreached on a one-out infield single, stole second and scored later in the frame onAli Castillo‘stwo-out RBI single.

Bowie starterJohn Means(0-1) was dealt the tough-luck loss after giving up one run on four hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts over 6.0 IP.

The Baysox had runners at second and third with nobody out in the second, but Anderson got out of the jam as Rifaela was erased at home on a 3-2 fielder’s choice andMartin Cervenkagrounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

In the top of the sixth,Cedric Mullinsdrew a one-out walk, but was thrown out at the plate as the potential tying run onCorban Joseph‘sdouble to right to keep it a 1-0 game in favor of the hosts.

RHPRyan Meisinger(2.0 IP, 2 H) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.
