Update 4:47 p.m.:  The fire was discovered by a firefighter traveling on Poor House Road.  He observed smoke coming from the back of the home.  The investigation revealed that failure of an electrical switch was the cause of the fire.  The homeowner was displaced and is being assisted by friends.  There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

This update corrects the earlier report of the possibility of a canine death. The Office of the State Fire Marshal reports there are no injuries or deaths. 


La Plata, MD- A single family house fire has been reported on Poorhouse Road in the area of Mt. Pisgah Farm Road.  Units are on the scene and it is being reported that there is one, possibly two canine fatalities. The Fire Marshal has been dispatched to the scene.
