WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after signing on as a co-sponsor to the bipartisan Queen-of-the-Hill rule led by Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31) and Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10) that would allow consideration of four separate DACA measures:

“I have said that the House ought to work its will on legislation to protect DREAMers, and this rule shows that a majority of Members in the House want to take action.  I’m glad 245 Republicans and Democrats came together to cosponsor this rule, which would bring up the four possible alternatives for addressing the DACA crisis.  Given the strong bipartisan support for addressing this issue, we ought to be allowed to debate these measures and vote on them.

“This is a crisis of the President’s own making, and now it falls to Congress to act, and act we must.  These young people deserve to stay in the only country they call home with a pathway to citizenship and help build a stronger future for the America they love.  I urge the Rules Committee to report out this rule without delay.”
