Fredericksburg, Va.– Senior captainConner Campbell(Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) earned a spot on the 2018 All-Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Team as announced by assistant conference commissionerTim Mowreron Friday morning.Campbelllanded on the second team as the lone representative for St. Mary’s College of Maryland and is the program’s first All-CAC pick in two years.
Campbellis earning his first career all-star nod following a stellar campaign for the Seahawks. The 5-11 long-stick midfielder paced the team with 48 caused turnovers while ranking second with 56 ground balls. He also added three goals and four assists.Campbellcurrently leads the conference in caused turnovers while ranks 15th in ground balls.
Within Division III, he is ninth in the country with 2.82 caused turnovers per game.
This season,Campbellpicked up his first career CAC Defensive Player of the Week award on April 23. He garnered the honor after notching a career-high seven caused turnovers and adding five ground balls in leading the Seahawks to their fifth win of the season. His selection snapped a four-year drought since St. Mary’s last CAC Defensive Player of the Week honoree.
Campbellrecorded four or more ground balls in seven games this season, including a season-best seven loose ball pickups in a win over Marymount University on April 4. He also tallied at least four caused turnovers three times, including a career-high seven twice.
A team captain this season,Campbellwrapped up his four-year career with 145 ground balls and 80 caused turnovers in 51 games while contributing seven goals, including a man-down goal, and seven assists.
The Seahawks finished the 2018 campaign with the most wins in head coachJason Childs’three-year tenure as the team posted a 5-12 (2-6 CAC) overall record. The five wins are also the most since a five-win campaign in 2015.
