(Waldorf, MD., Jul. 22, 2018) – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced Sunday that RHP Chris Mazza had his contract purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Mazza will report immediately to the Double-A Affiliate Biloxi Shuckers.
The California native was a newcomer to Southern Maryland, joining the team on July 13th. He made his debut on the mound for the Blue Crabs on July 15th, tossing two scoreless innings of relief against the New Britain Bees. Mazza made his home debut on July 19th against the Somerset Patriots, picking up the win after pitching a scoreless inning during the top of the 10th. He pitched in three games in total for Southern Maryland, allowing just two hits across four innings, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

Mazza was originally a 27th round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Menlo College. In his first professional season, the right-hander went 5-2 with a 2.05 ERA for the Twins organization. He spent 3+ seasons with the Twins, beginning the 2015 season with them before finishing it with the Miami Marlins organization. Mazza then spent three seasons with Miami, including reaching AAA at the beginning of the 2018 campaign.
“We are happy for Chris to have this opportunity to join the Brewers organization,” said Manager James Frisbie. “He pitched well for us in his limited time here, and we know he will continue to have more success in the next step of his journey.”
