(WESTMINSTER, MD) – The two people who were pronounced deceased this morning when a small plane crashed soon after take-off from a private airstrip in Carroll County have been identified.
The deceased are identified as Michael Kilpatrick, 62, of New Windsor, Md., and Robert Johnson, 56, of Woodsboro, Md. Kailpatrick was the pilot and Johnson was the passenger. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene of the plane crash earlier today.
Emergency service responders pronounced the pilot and the passenger of a 2006 Ultralight Quicksilver single engine plane, deceased after their plane crashed shortly before 11:00 a.m. today.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barrack were dispatched to the 1200-block of Baugher Rd, Westminster, Md., for the report of a plane crash. Responding fire and rescue personnel from the Carroll County Fire Department were on the scene as troopers arrived. The single-engine plane was located in an open field. The pilot and one passenger were the only people on-board the plane.
Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will be handling the investigation. The Maryland State Police will not speculate on the cause of the crash. The cause of the crash will be investigated and determined by federal authorities
