The Department of Public Works Utilities Division is scheduled to begin Phase I of the Zekiah Area Sewer Rehabilitation Project located throughout the Waldorf area on Monday, Sept. 17. During this phase, repairs will be made to sewer lines and manholes throughout the northern parts of Waldorf, including along Old Washington Road, Western Parkway, U.S. Route 301, and Maryland Route 5. Homes and businesses impacted by service interruptions will receive notification fliers approximately 24 to 72 hours in advance. Heavy rain or weekends could delay repairs.
The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of groundwater and rainwater which infiltrates the sewer system and flows to the Mattawoman Waste Water Treatment Plant. This will decrease operation and maintenance costs and reduce volume in the sewer system that contributes to sanitary sewer overflows during heavy rains.
