UPDATE 10:00 a.m. 8/29/2018- The Maryland Natural Resources Police have identified the 12 year old missing girl as Kaniya Kenly from Baltimore, MD. She was with a group of fifteen people when she was last seen struggling in the waters off Sandy Point State Park(Annapolis,MD) around 6:30 p.m. last night. Divers tasked with locating the girl began using side-scan sonar in an attempt to locate her.

The divers recovered her body approximately 40 yards from the shore and she was sent to the Baltimore Medical Examiners Office for autopsy.

Multiple agencies have been involved with this search and rescue, and more information will be added when released.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a 12-year old girl who was reported missing while swimming at Sandy Point State Park, Maryland, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a notification at approximately 6:40 p.m. from Anne Arundel County 911 that the child, who was last seen wearing a black and pink bathing suit, had reportedly gone under the water and did not resurface.

Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region command center launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Annapolis. Also searching is Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resource Police Marine Unit, Annapolis Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
