Mariners are advised that on Thursday afternoon, September 20th, 2018 or Friday morning, September 21st, the tug SEA CRESCENT is scheduled to commence towing a barge carrying a Boeing 747 aircraft from waters adjacent to Quonset State Airport, Rhode Island, then proceeding south along the U.S. east coast to arrive at the entrance to Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, and then on to National Harbor, Maryland, arriving on or about Monday, September 24th, weather permitting.
See the chartlet below for the SEA CRESCENT’s intended trackline from Rhode Island to Maryland. Should weather preclude beginning the tow on September 20th or 21st, it will be re-scheduled for September 22nd, and then September 23rd, and so on until a suitable weather window is forecast. The SEA CRESCENT will be escorted by the tug ISLAND TRADER during the entire transit. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the SEA CRESCENT while it is engaged in towing the barge carrying the B747, and remain well clear of the SEA CRESCENT, its barge, and the escort vessel ISLAND TRADER.
Both the SEA CRESCENT and the ISLAND TRADER may be reached via VHF channels 13 or 16. Questions or concerns regarding this tow may be directed to Mr. Edward G. LeBlanc at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England at 401-580-8747.
