Mechanicsville, MD- On December 7, 2018 at 1:42 a.m. an area resident discovered a fire at the Sutphin Lumber Company( 28540 Thompson Corner Road). 9-1-1 dispatch sent units from St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert Counties.

The Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department states that upon arrival they discovered a 100′ x 40′ structure with fire showing. Fifty firefighters worked for forty-five minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate and determined the blaze was accidental, and the preliminary origin is listed as sawmill equipment igniting combustible materials.

The Fire Marshal notes no injuries occurred from this incident and the estimated damage(loss) at $50,000.00(structure) and $450,000.00(contents).
