Press Release, Office of Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statementtoday on the appointment of OMB Director Mick Mulvaney as acting White House Chief of Staff:

“President Trump’s choice of Mick Mulvaney as acting Chief of Staff is a deeply troubling indication that he is choosing confrontation over compromise. By selecting someone who not only voted to shut down the government but also opposed reopening it against the position of Republican leaders, it would seem that the President wants a Chief of Staff who will support his goal of a shut down. That is not someone who is going to get us to the kind of agreement we need to keep government open and working on behalf of the American people.”
