News Release, Delegate Jerry Clark(29-C)
This week was eventful! The Governor’s inauguration took place on Wednesday, January 16th. Governor Larry Hogan is only the second Republican Governor to be re-elected in the state of Maryland. What an honor! And I am thankful to be serving during this historic time.
In his speech, Governor Hogan spoke of his appreciation of his father and the challenging choices he made while serving on the House Judiciary Committee and in Congress during the Watergate scandal. Hogan’s father supported the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, despite the opposition of his fellow Republicans. Governor Larry Hogan uses this honorable example to show that regardless of ones affiliated party, it is important for a representative to stand up for what he or she believes in. The Governor concludes his inaugural address with a call to action, urging representatives to “pledge to seek that middle ground where we can all stand together.”
I am inspired by Hogan’s inaugural address. Specifically in the moment when he referenced Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Governor Hogan stated that the government should be “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” I am a strong supporter of Governor Larry Hogan and agree that the government should be based around people. Our community and state are my people, who as a member I represent in the government that is by our state, and serves our state and local community. I am delighted to continue to work with our Governor as we delve into the third week of our 2019 legislative session.
