News Release, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office

On February 16, 2019, Deputy Westphal observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed in the 21300 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park.  Dep. Westphal attempted to catch up to the vehicle, however the vehicle accelerated and pulled away. Dep. Westphal  ultimately located the vehicle which had crashed into a traffic signal pole, in the area of Three Notch Road and Hermanville Road.

Dep. Westphal observed an individual, later identified as Knealand Antonio Strain, age 37 of Lexington Park, running from the accident scene.  Strain was detained and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. 

Investigation determined the handgun had been reported stolen, and Strain was prohibited from legally possessing a firearm.

Strain was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Handgun on Person Handgun in Vehicle
  • Illegal Possession of Ammunition
  • CDS-Possession of Firearms Firearm-Possession with Felony Conviction

Strain is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.
