Huntingtown,MD- On Wednesday, March 28, 2019 at 8:14 p.m., Calvert County 9-1-1 was alerted to a barn fire on Carla Drive.

The Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find a wood framed pole barn fully engulfed. Emergency Personnel was alerted to several animals being trapped inside the structure. The crews worked for thirty minutes to extinguish the blaze with 40 firefighters assisting.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate. A preliminary investigation has revealed the potential cause as accidental, stemming from an electrical malfunction in one of the horse stalls.

The Fire Marshal has estimated the damage at $100,000.00 in structure and $50,000.00 and contents. They also report that at least five horses and some animals died within the structure.
