Prince Frederick, MD- At 10:21 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, the Calvert County 9-1-1 emergency dispatch was notified of a single story detached garage fully engulfed on Solomons Island Road.

The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department arrived with fifty personnel and had the blaze under control in approximately two hours. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate.

The Fire Marshal’s report states that the fire started in the detached garage and spread to the home. The preliminary cause is still under investigation. The family was able to escape the home without injury, but several pets died as a result of the fire.

The estimated loss of structure and contents is listed as $425,000.00.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family at this time.
