From Acting Principal Cecelia Lewis:

Jackie Gheen has been selected by her peers as the Southern Middle School teacher of the year. Jackie works tirelessly every day to help Southern Middle school continue to improve. Her hard work has gained her the respect of not only her colleagues, but also from her students. Jackie has an ability to show compassion and understanding while continuing to hold high standards for her students. In her always engaging and rigorous classroom environment, Jackie dedicates time every day to build relationships with her students. Jackie shows an interest in each individual in her classroom and remains in constant contact with the parents of her students. Jackie dedicates a lot of her time and attention to planning and implementing lessons that meet the individual needs of the diverse group of students she has in her social studies and ELA classes. Jackie works collaboratively as a member of the 7th grade team and as a co-teacher to support all students.

Jackie has taken on a leadership role in our building as the Learning Focused trainer. Jackie goes above and beyond in this role by offering to help teachers plan using the Learning Focused framework and meeting with colleagues after work hours. Jackie is also a leader on the staff as a member of the Instructional Leadership team, the Including All team, and as a sponsor for the Math Engineering Science Achievement club. All of her extra hard work and effort put into being a great teacher and positive influence on her colleagues and students is why Jackie Gheen was nominated as the SMS teacher of the year.
