I have found another hidden gem, which is what I love to do! This is the kind of place that you wouldn’t know it is there, unless you know it is there. Well, now you know it is there!

Helen’s Cafe, tucked away at the Charlotte Hall Farmer’s Market (St. Mary’s County), has delicious home-cooked cuisine! Helen has been serving comfort food there since she opened last September. She is open Tuesday-Saturday from 6am-3pm. Friday’s are special because Helen serves dinner from 5pm-8pm, with the menu changing from week to week.

Regular menu items include breakfast (served all day) and lunch selections. She also has daily specials. If you go there on a Pot Roast day, you will be changed; it is amazing! I go to Helen’s at least once a week and I’ll go in thinking I’m going to get one thing, and then I end up getting something else (often the daily special).

Some of my breakfast favorites are Creamed Chip Beef, French Toast (with fruit on top), and Omelets. For lunch I love the Cheesesteak, BLT, Club Sandwich, and the Egg, Tuna, and Chicken Salads (I’ve tried them all)! I haven’t tried everything yet, but I’m working on it. There is a children menu too! The prices are great, you won’t break the bank eating there! Helen’s also serves beer, wine, and liquor!

Everyone who works there is friendly (say hi to Kim and Tara), but I really love talking about food with Helen! She’s looking forward to the market’s fresh produce because she tries to bring as much farm-to-table as she can. She also has a catering business and offers local lunch delivery.

Helen’s Café’s address is 29890 Three Notch Road, Building A, Charlotte Hall, MD.
