I’d heard some great things about a new juice bar in Waldorf, so I decided to check out Spin Juice House. What I heard was spot on! Chris Donovan (Air Force veteran) and his wife Chiara (active-duty Air Force) opened Spin Juice House last summer.

After they moved to Southern Maryland, they saw there was a need for a place where people could discover the health benefits of juicing. Chris, from the South Bronx, told me, “in New York, there are juice bars on every corner”. The atmosphere is light and comfortable, and although it is counter-service, there are several tables available to eat-in.

At Spin Juice House they offer more than juices!

Red, White & Blue Smoothie with plant-based protein and soy milk

They make made-to-order smoothies. They start with a base of non-dairy milk (coconut, soy or almond) or orange juice and then blend in fruits and/or vegetables. There are no added sweeteners; the fruits used to add sweetness. My daughter ordered the Red, White and Blueberry smoothie. She selected soy milk as her base. They added strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and soy protein and blended until smooth. She loved it and, grudgingly, allowed me to get a taste before she finished it. It was flavorful, fresh and had enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Acai Bowl with almond milk

They offer smoothie Bowls using various fruits and toppings. I had an Acai Bowl. Acai is a berry from the Acai Palm Tree, which is native to South and Central America. Acai berries are rich in antioxidants and have many health benefits. To make my Bowl, they started with a base of almond milk and added acai, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas and blended until smooth. This was then topped with granola, fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, and bananas), coconut flakes, and a drizzle of honey. It was delicious! I love the fresh taste of everything!

The Pitaya Bowl base is pitaya (also known as Dragon Fruit) which is nutrient-dense and a good source of iron, magnesium, and fiber. Another superfood (used in their Blue Moon Bowl) is Soursap. I’d never heard of this before! Soursap is the fruit of a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree. It is an antioxidant and has a wide range of benefits and is a good source of Vitamin C, B1 and B2.

Island Breeze – Cold Pressed Juice – Watermelon, Pineapple, Cucumber, Lime, Mint

The cold-pressed juices are prepared and bottled daily. Chris told me there are no additives and it’s just “all the juice squeezed out of the fruits”. I’ve never been a juice person, but my daughter and I tried two…Island Breeze (Watermelon, Pineapple, Cucumber, Lime, and Mint) and Island Water (Alkaline Water, Pineapple, Lemon, Spirulina (a microalgae nutritious “superfood”), and Agave). I was pleasantly surprised! They were both very refreshing and light. My favorite was the Island Breeze. I will be going back for more soon! They also offer Wellness Shots (Wheatgrass, Ginger Shots, and Spin Booster).

Island Water – Cold Pressed Juice – Alkaline Water, Pineapple, Lemon, Spirulina, Agave

The menu includes some vegan/healthy snacks too! The Spinach Patties and Veggie Patties are very popular, often selling out. They have a Vegan Waffle; I’ve already decided I’m going to get that next time I go.

I know I’ve used the word “fresh” several times, but when you use ripe fruits and vegetables, that is how the result is going to taste!

It was great to meet Chris! He is very animated and passionate about spreading the word about the benefits of what Spin Juice House offers. Chris says he, “wants to let people know there are healthy options available”.
