Port Republic, MD- Around 12:30 p.m. today, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department(PFVFD) was called to respond to an automobile crash on Southbound Route 4 and Broomes Island Road.

When units arrived they discovered a single-vehicle crash off the roadway.

One person was trapped and was extricated by PFVFD. That patient was airlifted to an area trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation. The other passenger in the vehicle was able to free themselves and was transported to an area hospital by ground.

The area was closed to traffic for approximately 75 minutes.
