There are several great restaurants in Solomons, and one of my favorites is The CD Café. The CD Café has been an area favorite since 1996. In May, new owner Warren McClain took over the helm. I’m happy to say that great food is still being served.

Warren is very engaging and was happy to share his enthusiasm for this restaurant. He gave a lot of credit for their success to his staff. He came from foodservice sales and, at one point, was a head chef at Carrol’s Creek Cafe in Annapolis, so he knows about food!

The CD Café has four chefs (Joe Pence, Aaron Weiner, Michael Yabar, and Gene Ariz). Not sous chefs or line cooks…chefs! Warren says each brings a different style and unique specialties. He wants people to know the “Café is chef-driven”. He said they work together well and balance each other. To round out the food artists is pastry chef Taylor Morris, who creates beautiful desserts…ours was fabulous!

Some of the best selling entrees are the Curry Chicken Salad, the Crab Cake, and the Shrimp Alfredo. I asked the two servers their favorite dishes. Myron said he likes to have the specials because they are unique. Nicole said she likes the Bistro Burger, Salmon, Napoleon appetizer, Scallops BBT appetizer, and any fish special. She said the Savory Cheesecake is tasty too!

Last week, I went to celebrate a friend’s birthday at The CD Café. The food was fabulous. We ordered several entrees off the menu and two daily specials. My friends ordered Crab Cake, Shrimp Alfredo, Healthy Salmon, and Blackened Halibut (special). I ordered Chili Con Carne (special). I didn’t taste all the entrees on our table because I was so busy talking to Warren and the staff (I like to talk). I did try the Healthy Salmon and it was delicious! The Chili was just like my mother used to make, with cumin (I love cumin)! Everyone enjoyed their food and plates were cleaned!

Following Warren’s recommendation for dessert, we shared two Flourless Lava Cakes. I didn’t get pictures of the cakes, because they disappeared too fast. The cake was just the right amount of chocolate, not too heavy, but still sweet. Needless to say, it was delicious!

The CD Café is unassuming and is in a small office building. There are a few parking spaces on the street, and if they are full, there is a parking lot in the back of the building. The restaurant is small, with about ten tables. It’s comfortable and the service is great. Everyone was very friendly.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and at 4 pm the lounge in the back (Next Door Lounge) opens. The Next Door Lounge is a nice intimate bar serving great cocktails, beer, and wine.

They are open every day with a new Sunday Brunch served from 10am-2pm. The café does not take reservations for regular dining. On Monday nights they have a very popular wine pairing dinner (make reservations for these dinners). I am planning to go to a wine dinner soon!

I really like the CD Café! The food and service are outstanding!
