A 36-year-old bus driver for Anne Arundel County Public Schools was found asleep in the bus seat intoxicated, police say.

Anne Arundel County, MD- On September 18, 20190 an off-duty AA County police officer observed a county school bus pulled over on the shoulder of Route 100 with its stop sign activated and flashing lights. When the officer got out to investigate, he found the bus driver, 36-year-old Angela Cassidy of Edgewater, slumped over the front seat, passed out.

The off-duty officer called for a back-up officer to conduct a field sobriety test. According to Mark Limanksy with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the first officer knocked on the door to try and wake her up, but was “unsuccessful.”

“He then climbed through the emergency exit door on the bus, went and awakened the bus driver and noticed signs of impairment,” Limansky told WJZ.

While no students were on the bus at the time Cassidy was discovered, police opened an investigation to see if she had been driving intoxicated with students on the bus.

On Sept. 19, Cassidy was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and related offenses. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Anne Arundel County District Court.
