The College of Southern Maryland women’s soccer team advanced in the NJCAA Region XX Division I Tournament with their 1-0 win over the Hagerstown Community College Hawks on October 26.

The game-winning goal came in the 38th minute from freshman Ana Benitez when her shot from inside the 18-yard box hit off the left goalpost and found its way to the back of the net. Freshman Briana Mendoza made her first assist of the season on the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeperCamille Cooleyhad a great game in the net for CSM, ending the day with 10 saves.

“We did really well this week,” CSM head coach Nina Duron said. “We were working on connecting passes, playing more possession rather than direct. I had some great moments in the buildup. Just a little bit more working on our finishing, and I think we’ll be good to go for Tuesday.”

CSM will now play No.1 seed CCBC Essex in the Region XX Division I Tournament Semifinals on Tuesday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Harford Community College.
